Alora will transport you to another world and keep you on the edge of your seat. I couldn't put it down! An original, well-written story, Alora grabbed me from the very first page and kept me up late at night just to finish it! I love it when that happens.Alora is a relatable teenage character who discovers she's actually from a different world and has the unique ability of being able to transport herself and others across distance and worlds. The adventure heats up as she helps the Stone Clan defend against her evil father. Don't let anyone ever tell you that clean YA fantasy is boring because this fast paced story has it all....danger, an evil villain, a romantic love interest, strong friendships and positive moral values.
Tamie Dearen is truly a talented author and I look forward to reading more of her work. I am hoping there is going to be a sequel to Alora!

Alora The WanderJewel Alora Series Book 1 eBook Tamie Dearen Reviews
Alora didn't know why visions of a guy kept up appearing before her whenever she took a shower or when she's in the bath tub. When the apparition finally materialized right in front of her, she discovered the secret to her true identity.
Kaevin thought he finally found his soulmate when he appeared in front of the girl with strange eyes. But she seemed out of reach. Soon he was transported into a whole new world, a world he never knew existed. He was brought to the present time after having lived in the past.
When Alora finally met Kaevin, she knew there's something odd about this guy. Aside from the fact that he was an uber gorgeous, pony-tailed-hair guy, he spoke like he was from out of nowhere, out of civilization. What forces of nature brought him to her?
Before long, an older man she never knew appeared and demanded to get her. She witnessed his deception when he came looking for her. Could she trust this man who was soon revealed to be her father?
I enjoyed reading Alora The Wander Jewel. This was a really unique high-fantasy story that had me mesmerized. I've read the other books Tamie Dearen had written, mostly contemporary romances and chick-lits, but with this one, she created a whole new world that left me breathless! Looking forward to reading more and discovering what happens next to Alora in her whole new world.
Alora The Wander-Jewel by Tamie Dearen is a jewel of a YA adventure story that will be thoroughly enjoyed by Young Adults as well as not-so-young-adults. Ms. Dearen has crafted a wonderfully imaginative story with an endearing heroine who just happens to have a unique power that comes from the fact that she really belongs in an alternative universe where Clans rule the world and war against each other; shamans have magical seeing powers; and certain individuals can transport themselves and others through space simply by using their mind and energy. Oh, yes, and once in a rare moon, a boy and a girl are destined to be Soul Mates.
Alora lives in Montana and is, more or less, a normal teenage girl until she starts seeing visions of Kaeven. Things become very interesting when Alora inadvertently transports Kaeven to be with her in Montana. There are many charming scenes of Kaeven acclimating to modern living in the U.S. — including a high school dance — when suddenly it becomes apparent that our young heroes are needed back in the land of Laegenshire. Accompanied by Alora’s best friend, Beth, and another friend,Wesley, Kaeven and Alora set off on what turns out to be the adventure of a lifetime.
Alora The Wander-Jewel is a well-written story that will captivate readers with a passion for YA adventures packed with action, fantasy and a touch of romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and look forward to reading the next in the series.
I really enjoyed reading this story today. I got a copy of the audiobook, thinking I would just lie in bed and listen to it (feeling sick today), but the story was very engaging. Out the window went my ideas of listening to a soothing voice and napping. I found myself a little impatient with the audiobook because I'm a very fast reader and can finish a novel much faster than the 9+ hours on the audio file, so I bought the kindle edition. I really wanted to make sure that I didn't miss any of the details.
The story isn't very long, a bit over two hundred pages, so I finished it a few hours after I started. It was a lot of fun. It had a light feeling, like you know everything will turn out okay but you still feel the suspense of finding out how it will all be okay. Although the characters go through some dark situations and confront evil, this book is not "gritty" and doesn't focus on gray areas of morality. The good guys are good and the bad guys are bad. So, if you are wanting a thought-provoking anti-hero story with lots of action and detailed descriptions of injuries and violence - this is NOT the book for you. But, if you want a clean, interesting, fast-paced, and fun story, consider this one. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but does leave things open for the story to continue. I already bought book two and look forward to reading it.
I've been reading fantasy since I first got my hands on the Sword of Shannara a long, long time ago. I've been spoiled by the best fantasy writers, with Brandon Sanderson my current favorite author. While lacking the word count of the epic stories of the masters of this genre, Alora has the heart and soul that makes fantasy such a compelling read.
Dearen does a great job of creating characters you can identify with, both the adults and the teens. And the villain is someone you can't wait to see vanquished. The magic is believable and adheres to it's own set of rules.
It doesn't matter if you're a fan of YA coming-of-age stories, or a fan of Fantasy, I think you'll enjoy this book. And, like me, be impatient for the next book in the series.
